An English Meet, Thursday 5th May 2022
Back in January 2020 I innocently started organising a new venture for April of that year, an 'English Meet' for teachers of English Leaving Certificate to share ideas, in the co-operative spirit. Naturally, along with everything else, it fell by the wayside. But evidently there was a hunger - 100 tickets went quickly, and there was a waiting list.
Now that - fingers crossed - things are possible again, we're going to have another go, on the evening of Thursday 5th May, 7.00-9.00pm, again in the lovely venue that is Whispering House at St Columba's College (the reception building for the 2019 researchED Dublin). [Covid-reassurance - it’s airy, with lots of ventilation].
Wonderful though online CPD has been, given its accessibility and convenience, there's a hunger for teachers to meet face to face again, to chat easily, to network over coffee... so that's the aim. If possible and if we have the capacity, we may try streaming too.
Repeating the Jan 2020 post:
Teachers share ideas and experiences on teaching the course. Presentations can be as short as ten minutes, or run longer, depending on need and content. There will be plenty of time for discussion, too.
Some ideas for presenters: Focus on a character in a text | reading & resource recommendations | modelling and scaffolding ideas | how to start an essay | approach to the Unseen | teaching the comparative | building a knowledge base | improving vocabulary | questioning techniques | effective use of tech | classroom techniques.
It’s free to attend: tickets via EventBrite below or go here.
Meanwhile, if you're interested in presenting (doesn't need a PowerPoint, low-key, no fees involved!) and are within striking distance of South Dublin, do please contact me to express your interest.
